Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has issued a warning to content creators and administrators of social media pages using the University's name to refrain from publishing unverified information capable of misleading the public.
According to the University, it has observed the circulation of reports on some online platforms claiming that certain senior academics have been promoted to the rank of Professor, despite the fact that the promotion process has not been completed.
The institution clarified that the recommendations of its Appointments and Promotions Committee have not yet reached the stage of external assessment. It explained that an academic promotion to the rank of Professor only becomes official after external assessors have completed their evaluation and the recommendation receives approval from the University Council.
In view of this, the University urged content creators to verify all information relating to its activities before making it public. It advised operators of platforms bearing the BUK name to rely on the University's official communication channels, including its verified social media accounts, official website, and the University Bulletin, for authentic updates.
The management further warned that it may take appropriate action against individuals or platforms found to be spreading false or misleading information capable of damaging the University's reputation or creating confusion among members of the public.
BUK reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate and timely information through its official channels and encouraged the public to disregard any unverified reports circulating on unofficial platforms.
