GOMBE STATE UNIVERSITY DISOWNS FAKE STRIKE MEMO, WARNS STUDENTS AGAINST HOSTEL EVACUATION NOTICE

Gombe State University (GSU) has disowned a purported internal memo circulating on social media announcing a strike by the university’s joint unions and directing students to vacate their hostels. The university has described the circulated document as fake and urged students, staff, parents and the general public to disregard it.

The clarification was contained in a Special Bulletin issued by the university’s Public Relations Unit on Monday, August 10, 2026, following the circulation of the alleged memo on social media.

Gombe State University Says Circulating Memo Is Fake

According to the university, its management became aware of a document being shared on social media which purportedly announced an industrial action by the university’s joint unions.

The document also reportedly instructed students to leave the university’s hostels.

However, Gombe State University stated that the document did not originate from the Registrar’s Office or the university management.

The institution therefore warned members of the university community and the public against relying on the information contained in the circulated document.

Students Advised Not to Act on the Fake Notice

GSU has specifically advised students not to make decisions or take any action based on the purported strike announcement.

Students are also encouraged to rely on information released through the university’s recognised communication channels before responding to any announcement concerning academic activities, hostel arrangements or other official matters.

The university said the clarification became necessary to prevent confusion and misinformation among students and other members of the university community.

Parents and the General Public Also Warned

The warning is not limited to students.

Staff members, parents and members of the public have also been advised to disregard the fake document and avoid sharing or acting on the information contained in it.

The university urged members of its community to verify any information concerning Gombe State University through official sources before forwarding such information to others.

This is particularly important for announcements relating to issues such as industrial action, academic activities, examinations, hostel arrangements and other major university decisions.

GSU Reaffirms Commitment to Official Communication

Gombe State University said it remains committed to providing accurate and timely information to its staff and students through its official communication channels.

The institution also expressed regret over any confusion or concern that may have resulted from the circulation of the fake document.

The university encouraged members of its community to rely only on verified official communications when seeking information about developments within the institution.
