NYSC HAS NO LINK TO NANS MOBILISATION LEVY - DG

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified that it has no agreement with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) concerning the collection of any levy from Nigerian students as part of the NYSC mobilisation process.

The clarification follows the circulation of a publication claiming that NANS was planning to collect a ₦200 levy from students and had linked the payment to NYSC mobilisation for national service.

NYSC Disowns NANS Mobilisation Levy

According to the NYSC management, the Scheme has not discussed, approved or entered into any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NANS regarding the collection of a levy from students for mobilisation.

The NYSC therefore advised students and other members of the public not to believe any information suggesting that such a payment is connected to the mobilisation of prospective corps members.

The clarification is particularly important for students approaching graduation and prospective corps members who may be concerned about requirements for participation in the national service programme.

How the NYSC Mobilisation Process Works

NYSC explained that its mobilisation exercise follows established procedures approved by the Federal Government.

The process involves cooperation between NYSC Management and Heads of Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs).

These institutions are responsible for supplying NYSC with the necessary information about their graduates for mobilisation purposes.

The Scheme emphasised that the mobilisation process is conducted through its established official channels and is not dependent on the activities of any student association or organisation.

Students Should Not Pay Any NANS Levy for NYSC Mobilisation

The NYSC has specifically urged prospective corps members and students to disregard claims that payment of a levy to NANS, or to any other student association, is required before a graduate can be mobilised for national service.

This means students should be cautious about individuals or messages requesting money on the basis that such payment is necessary for NYSC mobilisation.

Students who encounter such claims should verify the information through appropriate official NYSC channels rather than relying on social media publications or unofficial instructions.

NYSC Reaffirms Transparent Mobilisation Process

The Scheme also reaffirmed its commitment to operating a mobilisation system that is transparent, credible and efficient.

According to the clarification, NYSC carries out its mobilisation responsibilities in line with applicable government policies and guidelines.

The Scheme's statement is intended to put an end to any misunderstanding arising from the publication linking NANS and NYSC mobilisation.
