The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka has ordered a comprehensive investigation following an alleged physical attack on a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts, amid allegations of attempted sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The incident reportedly occurred within the university environment on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and videos showing part of the incident have since circulated widely on social media.
UNIZIK Condemns Assault
Reacting to the development, the university management expressed concern over the incident and condemned the use of violence or self-help in resolving allegations of misconduct.
The institution maintained that regardless of the nature of an allegation, matters of this kind must be handled through appropriate institutional channels rather than through physical confrontation or any form of jungle justice.
University Reaffirms Position on Sexual Misconduct
UNIZIK also restated its position against sexual misconduct, harassment and other forms of inappropriate behaviour within the university community.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has maintained that the university has zero tolerance for such conduct.
However, the management stressed that allegations must be properly examined before conclusions are reached, with all parties given the opportunity to have the matter addressed through due process.
Full Investigation Ordered
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the university management has directed that an immediate, comprehensive and impartial investigation be carried out.
The investigation is expected to establish what led to the confrontation and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the university, relevant administrative procedures have already been activated as the matter undergoes review.

The institution stated that its handling of the matter would be guided by fairness and objectivity.
UNIZIK reaffirmed its responsibility to safeguard the dignity, safety and wellbeing of both students and members of staff, while insisting that established procedures must be followed when allegations of misconduct arise.
The university further indicated that appropriate action would be taken where conduct is found to violate its standards and regulations.
