ASUU UNIZIK DECLARES WITHDRAWAL OF SERVICES OVER AUGUST 2026 SALARY

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Branch, has directed its members to withdraw their academic and administrative services over the non-payment of their August 2026 salaries.

The directive followed a congress held on Monday, September 7, 2026, where members resolved to stop rendering services until the complete August salary is paid.

ASUU UNIZIK directs members to stop services

In a notice issued by the ASUU-NAU Branch, the union said the decision was based on the NEC Standing Resolution, which empowers branches to withdraw their services when salaries are not paid by the third day of the following month.

According to the branch, members are therefore expected to suspend their services pending the full payment of their August 2026 salary.

The union stated that the withdrawal of services will remain in effect until the salary payment is completed.

Academic activities affected by the directive

The directive covers both academic and administrative responsibilities carried out by members of the union.

ASUU-NAU specifically instructed its members to immediately withdraw from activities including:

  • Teaching and lectures
  • Tutorials and practical sessions
  • Student supervision
  • Marking of examination scripts
  • Examinations
  • Departmental, board and committee meetings
  • Submission of results
  • Online classes and other related academic duties

The development could therefore affect various university activities involving members of the academic union while the directive remains in force.

Members told not to sign attendance registers

The branch also instructed its members to refrain from signing attendance registers during the withdrawal of services.

They were further directed not to respond to memos or directives issued by Heads of Departments, Deans or the university administration.

The union urged members to remain united and vigilant while monitoring official ASUU-NAU platforms for further information.

ASUU warns against intimidation or harassment

The notice also addressed the issue of possible pressure on members during the industrial action.

Members were instructed to immediately report any form of intimidation or harassment to the ASUU-NAU Branch Executive Council.

The union said its members should remain united and continue to attend Congress as directed.

When will services resume?

According to the notice, the withdrawal of services will continue until the complete August 2026 salary has been paid.

ASUU-NAU stated that members are expected to resume their duties only after the branch notifies them that the outstanding salary has been fully paid.

The branch concluded by calling on all members to comply fully with the directive and maintain unity.

What students of UNIZIK should know

Students should take note that the directive concerns members of the ASUU Nnamdi Azikiwe University Branch and covers a wide range of academic and administrative activities.

Since the notice does not specify a fixed end date, the duration of the withdrawal will depend on when the complete August 2026 salary is paid and when the branch issues a notification for the resumption of services.

Students are therefore advised to rely on official university and ASUU-NAU communications for subsequent updates concerning lectures, examinations, results, supervision and other academic activities.

Eniola Educational Consultant will continue to provide updates as further official information becomes available.
