FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSE EXPELS 12 STUDENTS, RUSTICATES 5 OVER DISCIPLINARY OFFENCES

The Federal University Dutse (FUD) has approved disciplinary sanctions against 22 students following consideration of a report from its Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

According to the university’s official weekly newsletter, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ahmad Mohammed Gumel, reviewed the report from the committee’s 20th meeting and approved the expulsion of 12 students. Five other students were rusticated, while another five received warning letters for various disciplinary offences.

The cases involved offences including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, phone theft, robbery and cult-related activities, drug abuse, attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying.

FUD Expels 12 Students

The 12 students whose cases resulted in expulsion were listed in the university publication alongside their matriculation numbers and the offences associated with their disciplinary decisions.

The cases are presented below as stated in the university newsletter:

S/N Student Matric Number Offence Decision

The publication states that the affected students were found guilty of the offences listed in the disciplinary report before the expulsion decisions were approved.

Five Students Receive Rustication

The university also approved rustication for five students.

The newsletter explains that four students were rusticated for two semesters, while one student received a one-semester rustication in connection with cases involving cyberbullying and sexual assault.

However, the table in the publication does not specify which individual student received the one-semester sanction and which four received two-semester sanctions. The five students listed under the rustication decision are:

S/N Student Matric Number Offence Decision
13 Muhammad Bashir Umar FASS/CSS/22/1084 Attempted Sexual Assault Rustication
14 Uwua Joseph FCP/CSC/24/1105 Cyber Bullying Rustication
15 Ahmed Tela Abdulhakim FCP/CSC/24/1083 Cyber Bullying Rustication
16 Abdurrasheed Salahuddeen Abdulkareem FCP/CSC/25/2015 Cyber Bullying Rustication
17 Ibrahim Iliyasu FCP/CSC/24/1095 Cyber Bullying Rustication

Because the published table gives only the general decision of “Rustication” for these five entries, no individual duration has been assigned to a particular student in this report.

Five Students Receive Warning Letters

Five additional students were issued warning letters over disciplinary matters.

The offences listed for this group include drug abuse off campus, attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying.

S/N Student Matric Number Offence Decision

22 Mubarak Ajigumina Adeshina FCP/CYB/24/1055 Cyber Bullying Warning Letter

Breakdown of the Disciplinary Decisions

The disciplinary actions reported in the newsletter comprise three categories:

  • 12 students: Expulsion
  • 5 students: Rustication
  • 5 students: Warning letters

This brings the total number of students listed in the disciplinary report to 22.

The offences range from criminal conspiracy and armed robbery to phone theft, robbery, cult-related activities, drug abuse, attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying.

What the University Publication Reports

The disciplinary decisions followed the review of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee report by the Vice-Chancellor. The publication identifies the 20th meeting of the committee as the source of the report considered before the decisions were approved.

The newsletter does not provide a date for the disciplinary committee meeting or specify separate rustication periods for each of the five affected students. For that reason, those details have not been inferred beyond what is expressly stated in the publication.

Conclusion

Federal University Dutse has approved disciplinary measures against 22 students following the consideration of cases by its Students’ Disciplinary Committee. The decisions comprise 12 expulsions, five rustications and five warning letters, covering the offences recorded in the university’s official weekly newsletter.

The publication provides the names, matriculation numbers, offences and decisions for all 22 students, while noting that four of the rusticated students received two-semester sanctions and one received a one-semester sanction without identifying the individual durations in the accompanying table.
