NANS APPEALS TO MADONNA UNIVERSITY TO RECONSIDER EXPULSION OF NURSING STUDENTS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the management of Madonna University to reconsider the reported expulsion of some nursing students following their involvement in a social media video recorded within a hospital environment.

In a press release dated October 2, 2026, NANS acknowledged that the conduct was inappropriate and inconsistent with the ethical and disciplinary standards expected of nursing students. The association, however, asked the university to consider a less severe disciplinary measure.

The appeal was signed by Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS, President of NANS.

NANS Requests Clemency

NANS said the affected students had invested years, resources and effort in pursuing careers in nursing, and expressed concern about the potential consequences of ending their studies at this stage.

The association therefore proposed that the reported expulsion be replaced with a stern letter of warning, arguing that the students should be given an opportunity to learn from the incident and continue their education.

NANS also stated that the students had recognised the seriousness of their conduct, expressed regret and accepted responsibility for their actions.

Student Discipline and Responsibility

While seeking clemency, NANS made clear that it does not support the conduct that led to the disciplinary action.

The association described the behaviour as inconsistent with the standards expected of nursing students and reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, moral ethics and discipline among Nigerian students.

It also said it opposes moral decadence and supports responsible conduct within the student community.

Appeal to Madonna University Management

NANS urged the university management to consider the students' circumstances and exercise compassion in determining the appropriate disciplinary response.

The association argued that discipline should provide an opportunity for correction and guidance, rather than necessarily ending a student's educational journey.

It expressed confidence that the university would consider the appeal and allow the affected students an opportunity to move forward from the incident.
