The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members against misconduct and actions capable of damaging the reputation of the Scheme or the country.
General Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two Corps Members deployed to Kano and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Karaye.
He urged the Corps Members to abide by the provisions of the NYSC Bye-laws and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stressing that anyone found engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Scheme would face the appropriate sanctions.
The NYSC DG reminded the Corps Members that they are expected to serve as brand ambassadors of the Scheme, their families and their respective institutions.
He encouraged them to apply the knowledge acquired during their academic training towards solving problems and contributing meaningfully to national development.
General Nafiu also advised them to make productive use of their service year by acquiring additional skills that would enhance their personal and professional development.
He specifically urged them to identify skills relevant to their fields of study and take advantage of opportunities to improve their capabilities.
The Director General further called on the Corps Members to promote positive content that reflects the culture and values of their host communities as well as those of the NYSC.
On movement outside their states of service, he instructed them to obtain approval from the NYSC State Coordinator whenever travelling becomes necessary.
He added that Corps Members who intend to travel outside Nigeria during their service year must obtain permission from the NYSC Director General, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
General Nafiu wished the Corps Members a successful orientation course and a rewarding service year.
Meanwhile, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abdulkarim Abubakar, reported that 2,428 Corps Members, comprising 1,024 males and 1,404 females, had been registered at the camp.
She disclosed that the Corps Members had demonstrated loyalty and dedication while adapting to the regimented camp environment.
According to her, effective teamwork among camp officials has also contributed significantly to smooth operations and quality service delivery.
